KING KASHYAPA ON THE THRONE

King Kashyapa, who reigned over Sri Lanka from 477 to 495, is renowned for his remarkable architectural accomplishments, most notably the construction of the Sigiriya rock fortress. A monarch belonging to the "Mourya" empire constructed six palaces within the Sigiriya fortress,. The ruins discovered at the site indicate that the highest point of the Sigiriya rock was the primary for the "raja sabhawa" (council of states).
